Relationship to Monarchs and Emperors
Once in a while enough records exist to enable one to track his/her ancestry back to European royalty. This bit of luck happened in my case when I discovered that Magdalen Wake (1544-1599) was my 11th great grandmother. She is the 7th great granddaughter of Edward III (1312-1377), King of England. An extensive history of his ancestry exists, this leading to most of the middle-ages royalty of Europe. These connections largely arise because monarchs gave their daughters in matrimony to sons of other royal lines in exchange for various benefits and agreements.
Below is a list of royal lines that provides the relationships that I have to them. For those wishing to learn more about these monarchs and emperors, there are links to brief bios for each. I have relied principally on Wikipedia for these links. Though Wikipedia has its shortcomings, it is used because it is widely and easily available and typically provides additional sources.
